Traffic cops unprepared in making QR code applicable for autos

In spite of adopting various methodologies to streamline the traffic system in the Capital city, recent attempt of Ranchi Traffic Police is also unlikely to take off. Against the authorities setting Tuesday as deadline to enforce QR code scanning system for the autos plying in the city most of the traffic constables deployed at major check posts do not even know the basics of it.

The plan to keep all unauthorised auto-rickshaws off-roads is yet to be conveyed to the traffic constables deployed at the 42 check posts placed in the city. Not even preliminary arrangements like explaining details about the QR code, downloading QR code scanner, checking procedures are there in place.

“We have not received any input about the QR code implementation plan. Though frequently, we conduct checking drive but information about seizing autos without having QR code embedded is yet to be received. May be in a day or two, we get the instructions to confiscate autos without having QR code embedded on the vehicles,” said a traffic constable deputed at the check post near Succhna Bhawan.

However, DSP (Traffic-1), Dilip Xalxo just cited that only after taking up the checking drive plan ahead different pros and cons will be explained to the traffic constables. However, Xalxo too appeared clueless about the plan that when exactly the checking drive will be taken up.

“I am not aware about the exact date but within a week time, we are likely to check all the auto-rickshaws. Since it is the joint effort of the Municipal Corporation, personnel from both sides will conduct the checking drive,” said the DSP (Traffic). Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh also refused to comment on the matter.

Notably as per plan the traffic police personnel are to instantly confiscate all such auto-rickshaws violating the newly formulated rules to keep those off roads. The initiative is being taken up again in the city looking at the traffic snarl that primarily occurs due to the heavy penetration of auto-rickshaws during the rushed hours at busy spots.

According to the inputs so far, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has distributed 2105 permits and QR code-embedded stickers among the auto-rickshaw drivers. Various reports suggest that there are approximately 7,000 auto-rickshaws that mainly ferry commuters on different routes in Ranchi while only 2335 are authorised to ply here. RMC City Manager (Transportation Cell), Saurabh Kumar said that the Civic Body has received 2260 requisitions for permits.
