Inching one step closer to bringing all traffic rule violations, fines and afterward process on online platform, the traffic police have started training sessions for the personnel. As many as 40 traffic men got training with e-challan devices at the police headquarters on Monday.
Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh informed that the Department was targeting to provide training to 200 personnel in a phased manner within a fortnight. “This is a long pending plan which is to be started to curb traffic rule violations strictly. We have started training sessions for personnel to get acquainted with device and processes. We have acquired as many as 40 devices as of now which will appear in hands of traffic personnel on spots where traffic rule violations are more than other places comparatively. With this device, we will be able to not only save the time of offender and traffic personnel, but will also be able to track the history of violations by the offender,” said Singh.
Notably, the traffic police had planned to launch e-Challan devices and Digilocker facilities ahead of Global Investor Summit itself which was held on February 16-17 this year. However, the traffic establishment has decided to go ahead with it any day now.
The e-Challan devices will remain connected with traffic department server, which means the device will have entire history of vehicle owner appeared on the screen the moment vehicle number registered with traffic department is punched in it. It will also present history of previous violations by the vehicle owner, if, any, which will help traffic police decide amount and nature of fine.
“At the same time, each device will remain connected with the other in city. It will also detect forged license immediately. Not only to that, it will also help traffic rule violator to go to the traffic police website and see the history and nature of the violation along with penalty amount,” said Singh.
He, however, said that the e-Challan devices will not have facility to pay through online mode, which will be added at later stages. He said Digilocker facility will also be used at later stages only due to lack of knowledge and training among traffic personnel about it. Notably, Digilocker is an online locker provided to every citizen by the Union Government, where the person can keep all his certificates and documents in digital format.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport has given vehicle owner flexibility of carrying all the papers of vehicle including driving license, registration number, pollution certificate and insurance certificate to keep in digital format in mobile handset and present it to traffic personnel if and when demanded. Singh said that Digilocker related training will be provided to personnel once e-Challan devices were successfully functional in the city.
