Taking prompt action over the poor health of city traffic police constables, the administration is thinking to introduce health insurance for them. Also, it is preparing a proposal of providing oxygen masks to deal with vehicular pollution and gears to protect from scorching heat.
Few days back, about 151 constables during the pulmonary function test and health profiling at a city based hospital were detected with high blood pressure, high-normal blood pressure, hyperglycemic, obstructive lung diseases and restrictive lung diseases.
Out of 226 constables, 72 constables had lung infection while 39 were detected with high BP and it was low in two. The blood sugar level was also found over normal in 23 constables.
“The constables have to do a lot of duties in all the seasons. We are planning to suggest the government of introducing health insurance. Oxygen masks will also be provided. Moreover, we are in talks with doctors and experts for suggesting more means which can benefit in maintaining the good health of the personnel,” said Traffic Superintendent of Police (SP) Karthik S.
The proposal is likely be forwarded to the Government after this week as many more constables are undergoing the health check up. Traffic Police department has decided to continue the health check by the end of this week.
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities who had done health checkup of the constables said the number of cops suffering from health ailments has increased. “We are unaware about the exact number but it is more than 151,” said Anand P Srivastava, Media Advisor of the city hospital.
The report specifying the nature of diseases found in the traffic constables claim it is important to ensure the health profiling and pulmonary functioning test of around 350 Traffic Police constables deployed in the city as it will prove the present health status.
“The constables of the Traffic Police keep standing during the duty hours and are directly affected by the gases coming out of vehicles. In such circumstances, Health Profiling and Pulmonary Functioning Test are essential,” mentions the report.
like the eight day long traffic awareness drive ‘Parivartan’ organised early this month, Traffic Police is willing to spread health alert for its men.
“We hope to keep our constables fit and fine through many more innovative ways. The plan is in pipeline,” Karthik S said.
