The authorities will provide Traffic constables essential things and infrastructure to beat the heat.
This is a much-needed step for traffic personnel, who have to stand for long hours under blazing sun and manage traffic. The step would be indeed a great help considering no designated health care centre with specialised service to examine their health issues at regular basis is in place for them.
“To provide relief to all the constables during the duty, all the traffic check posts are being renovated. A letter has already been sent to the RMC to complete the work in the stipulated time frame. Few private companies will also help in renovating the traffic police check posts through CSR project,” informed Traffic SP Manoj Ratan Chothe.
He added that there is one small health care unit, where only basic medical treatments are offered to the policemen. “All the police personnel have to contact other super speciality hospitals for major treatments and accordingly their bills are reimbursed. We equip them with facilities as per their requirement,” said the Traffic SP.
Similarly, to monitor the health of traffic constables, several other measures are also being considered. “At the gap of every six months, all the police personnel will go for a complete health check up to keep a track of their vigor. On May 1 a camp will be organised at district level to scrutinize the health problems of all the traffic police personnel at Police line. As many as 300 traffic personnel are expected to participate and undergo the process,” informed Chothe.
The state capital has been spooling under sever hot weather conditions with the maximum temperatures soaring around 40 degree Celsius, 5-6 degree Celsius above the normal, for the past few days. Considering the consequences of heat waves and its ill-effects on the health of all the police personnel, Ranchi traffic constables were given sunglasses and oral rehydration solution (ORS) to beat the scorching heat while on duty.
The city has approximately 300 traffic constables who have to stand in blistering temperatures to manage the city’s chaotic traffic for long hours irrespective of weather condition. “Masks have already been distributed among traffic constables to protect them from filth and pollution. We have started distributing sunglasses and ORS. Umbrellas too will be distributed shortly among the traffic constables,” added Chothe.
