Road accidents, violation of traffic rules, road rage, legal facets about traffic rules were discussed with the students of Ranchi College and Ranchi Women’s College in the presence of police personnel and other experts on Saturday.
Targeting the younger generation, the traffic awareness cum legal awareness drive initiated from Ram lakhan Singh Yadav College, sometime back, is slowly gaining impetus.
“Maximum cases of traffic rules violation that is registered in the capital city, depict that there is lack of knowledge about the traffic rules among youths. The police department in association with NGOs sensitises college goers and teenagers about various legal aspects. The awareness campaign is also a platform to know and discuss problems faced by the people. The initiative will help in bridging the communication gaps. Soon the campaign ‘Aao Sath Chale’ will be conducted in all the institutes,” said, Ranchi Police Spokesperson, DSP Sadar, VC Srivastava.
Apart from traffic rules, information about POSCO Act and its use, Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, ordinances related to child marriage, human trafficking, law for eve teasing, child labour and bonded labourer Acts were disseminated among the students. Tiger force, Shakti mobile and other initiative taken Police department was also highlighted in the programme.
Notably, the legal awareness campaigns cum traffic awareness drive will continue till November with the aim to target maximum youths. Police personnel too feel that organising such camps will atleast motivate few people from different sections to follow the norms as prescribed.
Incidentally, awareness programmes like ‘Naraad Muni’ and ‘Yumraaj’ have taken a backseat. Parvej Qureshi who plays ‘Naraad Muni’ in the traffic awareness programme, added, “I am ready to work for a social cause but I need decent remuneration for the service. People are attracted towards the concept and can bring change if the programme is continued.”
However, Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh, said, “Police officers are monitoring the campaigns so that it can have long term affects on mindset of people especially youngsters. We keep changing concepts and accordingly we utilize the theme. ‘Naraad Muni’ is just a small part of this innovative approach. As far as incentives are considered, the department often pays the concerned person who plays the role. Moreover, the actor is available for a certain period only and has alternate source of livelihood.”
