Concerned over rising cases of eve teasing at marketplaces and issues concerning the permanent shopkeepers, traders under the banner of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the oldest traders’ body of the Kolhan region, on Thursday convened a meeting with East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal. The traders said that threat to women and lack of space is affecting their business in the time of recession.
“The situation is becoming difficult for the permanent shopkeepers. A woman was teased yesterday which led to a brawl between the vendor who was selling shoes and slippers. The Sakchi police had to intervene to resolve the issue. Such incidents happen regularly and often goes unreported,” said vice-president Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry Suresh Sonthalia.
