In protest against repeated attacks on traders, the shops in Golmuri here closed their shutters seeking high-level security for the community.
The traders protested against attack on the 32-year-old trader Amit Agrawal, who was shot at four rounds by two bike-borne criminals at Tinplate under Golmuri Police Station area late in the night of December 23. A truck driver Satpal Singh (45) was also shot at and injured near Tube Company gate in Burmamines, triggering fear among the traders.
The traders also demanded adequate security to prevent repetition of such incident. “In Jharkhand, businessmen are looted and killed. They are rarely arrested. Businesses can not function under the fear of criminals,” he said. 'If the situation worsens then businessmen and traders will take to streets to safeguard their interests,” noted a trader.
Golmuri market wore a deserted look today as shop-keepers and traders kept their shops and business establishments closed in protest against the police inaction in trader firing case. The call for Golmuri shut-down, given by the Golmuri Bazaar Vyapar Samity (GBVS), evoked a spontaneous response. “People did suffer due to bandh, but we have no choice but to close shutters to register our complain. Customers from Telco, Sidhgora, Agrico and Burma-mines turn up here for shopping,” said Bimal Jalan, a trader.
