The so-called think tank of the then MCC, Narayan Sanyal, finally came out of jail on bail after nine years. On Friday at about 2:30 pm he came out from the main gate of JP Central Jail in Hazaribagh and as he saw his younger sister Shukla Bhattacharya, almost ran and gave a  huge hug to her.

His sister Shukla Bhattacharya was trying since long for his release. On Tuesday she came to Hazaribagh with information that the Supreme Court of India has granted him bail in those two cases in which the lower courts had not given him relief. On Wednesday she met with the jail officials but till then no paper had come from the Apex Court.

The jail officials then contacted the local authorities of Giridih and Sambham (Andhra Pradesh). From Giridih confirmation of apex court order came the same day but it took more than 24 hours in getting confirmation from Sambham, AP.

On Thursday, the jail authorities informed Bhattacharya that Friday morning they would release Sanyal. The jail administration was ready at 10:30 but Sanyal took about four hours time to come out. He said that he  was in this jail since long and during this period a relationship of heart has developed with many inmates so “without meeting them how can I leave the place.”

Outside the jail compound both brother and sister first enjoyed Goal Gappa (Pani puri) and then after taking lunch at local prince hotel proceeded to Behala, Kolkata. A team of Hazaribagh police escorted them up to the border of the district.

Sanyal (77) was a meritorious student and after doing post graduation he joined United Bank of India as PO. In 1968 he joined the Naxal movement and was arrested in 1971 for the first time. In December 2005 former IPS K Vijay Kumar arrested him from Raipur Chattishgarh and since then he was behind bars.
