Three-day Int'l seminar concludes amid chaos

Sir, I am the head of History department of VBU-cum the President of the organising committee but do not know anything about the programs and schedules. I was called on the dais for the first time to present the bouquet. It is all because I am woman and belongs to tribal community. These were the words of Prof Sheela Topno through which she expressed her pain before BJP veteran Yashwant Sinha in the special session of the three-day-long International Seminar which concluded on Monday at VBU.

After inaugural session things looked mismanaged. The delegates were roaming here and there to know the venue of their technical session. From Sunday noon the organisers started advising him to read their paper at any venue because they too were unaware about the detailed program.

Against the claim of thirty technical sessions hardly 20-25 sessions were organised in classrooms having no banner of the seminar and thin presence of participants.

In special sessions too the presence of participants and students was very thin. Before the seminar VC and organisers have claimed that representatives of more than 9 countries are coming but actually three representatives came from abroad. It reminded the East Zone VCs’ Meet held here last year when only 11 VCs came against the claim of 80+.

In the campus murmuring has started on its expenditure too because VBU administration has given 13-14 lakhs to this seminar against the allotment of Rs25 lakhs made for all 19 departments.
