The third phase of the panchayat elections in Palamu has been outstanding, breaking the record of polls of the previous two phases of polling.
A press note issued by the Palamu district public relation office put today's voting percentage above 71.
It is the highest so far and this has come in those blocks which in the past have been ravaged by extremism like Manatu, Panki, Tarhassi, Nilamber Pitamberpur, Satbarwa etc.
Voting was conducted at 911 booths with more than 3 lakh 30 thousand of the voters.
Sources said this highest turn out so far on the Red soil is a kind of obituary for the extremism here.
The panchayat elections here in this region are fought with all might and zeal and the voters too do not mind coming out of their houses to vote.
A big down in day temperature today is seen as a motivating force for the huge turn out of the voters.
There is now left one phase, the fourth one which is slated for May 27 at 796 booths with more than 2 lakhs eighty two thousand of voters.
District election officer cum DC Shashi Ranjan has thanked the voters for their participation in the polling.
