Thieves made an abortive bid to steal cash from the Kundri branch of the Jharkhand Vananchal Gramin Bank under the Lesliganj police station limits.

The attempt to steal cash was made on the intervening night of December 6/7.

The thieves using a gas cutter broke open the main gate and then unlocked the shutter. Inside the branch the thieves mistook an almirah there to be the currency chest. The said almirah was broken open but there were documents and papers of the bank only.

Officer in charge of the Lesliganj police station Gautam Roy said the thieves could not lay their hands on any cash. The bank's cash remained safe and totally untaken.

The thieves did not leave behind any of them so as to press in the sniffer dog. An FIR was lodged with the Lesliganj police station on December 7.

Police are investigating the case. It has ruled out involvement of any professional thieves. It's the handiwork of a novice one as Almirah was taken for currency chest.
