A theft accused slipped from the police custody near Tenughat while he was being taken to the Tenughat jail from the court here on Saturday evening. Giving details of the incident, jail official Pramod Kumar said the accused Arjun Mishra had allegedly committed theft in a shop of Deepak engineering at
Chanderpura during the night on Thursday and had been picked up red handed by its owner Shankar Saw. A hunt has been launched with help of other police officials to nab the absconding criminal.
The accused was arrested and brought from Chanderpura to the judicial custody on Saturday. As they reached the gate of the Tenughat jail, he dragged the accompanying policemen and escaped in a police van with help of his aides.
