The World Environment Day is due on June 5 and the DLSA Latehar is to observe it at Maromar the most attractive place in the south division of the tiger reserve. Secretary of the Latehar district legal services authority Swati Vijay Upadhayay said our principal district and sessions judge Latehar Akhil Kumar has directed us to have this day at such a place where we can interface and interact with the traditional forest dwellers and Maromar having around 9 villages comes as a handy place to drive our point home that saving, preserving and protecting the environment is in fact saving human life.
This 2022 the theme of the World Environment Day is 'Only One Earth'. Secretary said Mahua fruits collection time here in the jungles is in fact fire time.
Mahua fruit pickers cause man made fire in the jungles that devastate our biodiversity like anything. Sources said there has been around 1800 incidents of surface fire in the jungles of PTR this acute summer. Swati Vijay Upadhayay said our principal district and sessions judge Latehar Akhil Kumar and a fleet of judicial officers will try to motivate the traditional forest dwellers to help save forest in their own interest.
She said no one stops the poor to have the minor forest produce but if in the name of collecting minor forest produce the forest is plundered and ruined then it becomes a crime. Forest dwellers live in the ambience of Nature but are unmindful of the cost of living in the forest said sources. The Latehar DLSA will aim at telling these dwellers to live in connosance with nature and not to live in contravention of forest.
