Repeating the history of ‘Honour Killing’ a 16-year-old girl was brutally killed by her father and brothers under Jorapokhar police station in Dhanbad district. They later cremated her body near Ghanudih pond and escaped, police said.
The girl Varsha was allegedly killed by her father Shambhu Ram and two brothers Suraj Ram and Taregn Ram on the day of Raksha Bandhan. later they escaped after cremating the body. We are conducting raids to arrest the three, said Pramanand Yadav in-charge of Bhaura OP.
“Though we are investigating into matter but in prima-facie it seems to be a matter of honour killing. Varsha was killed by her kith and kin perhaps over a love affair”, he added.
The residuals of the body parts including bones and other materials have been collected from the killing and cremating spots; later sent for DNA test, said OC adding “A case has been registered IPC section 302 and 210/34 and police on hunt to arrest Shambhu Ram (father), Suraj Ram and Taregn Ram (brothers)”.
According to the neighbours Varsha was a class 10 student of KC Girls School, Jharia. Her mother is out of station since past ten days. Over some dispute she was killed by her father and brothers in the mid-night on 18 August. later they packed the body into a plastic bag and cremated nearby pond, said a neighbour to the police.
Though the number of love affairs and marriages might have gone up across the country but the reality remains different in this modern era. The heinous crime ‘Honour killing’, where the love buds are killed by their kin or other members of their caste, is still very rampant.
Now to be young and in love has proved fatal for many young girls and boys across the country, especially when it comes to women.
