'Teachers to adopt dress code voluntarily'

The teachers of Jagannathpur Middle School have recently started a new trend of uniform dress code for teachers that have made a significant impact and seem to be a lesson for other Government school teachers in various districts.

The Government school, which was adopted by the Secretary of the School Education and literacy Department Aradhana Patnaik under ‘Hamara Vidyalaya Adarsh Vidyalaya’, recently experimented with a self-imposed dress code around few months ago. The initiative is receiving appreciation not only from department officials but from teachers’ fraternity too.

However, all teachers are responsible for arranging their own attire accordingly decided by the mutual consent of their colleagues. Other government school teachers’ too have voluntarily agreed to the uniform dress code and have approached the department to implement it across all Government schools in the State in the coming days.

“Teachers association has approached the department and we have given approval to the concept as this initiative will not only establish discipline among teachers but also set an example in the coming days. This is a voluntarily approach and department has not made anything mandatory regarding the dress code policy,” informed School Education and literacy Department, Secretary, Aradhana Patnaik

The concerned department will start the implementation procedure in the other schools too or not in the coming days, Patnaik further added, “The department is not going to make or come up with any dress code policy in the coming days. We are just supporting the proposal.”

On the other hand, newly appointed 10,000 trainee teachers are already supporting the dress code with mutual concern. “As many as 250 school teachers have adopted the dress code policy in several districts. The department is supporting it. Even the trainee teachers are supporting this step, as they too believe that such step will create their unique identity and it will also inspire students,” added Patnaik.

Similarly, Jharkhand State Primary teachers Association (JSPTA), Secretary Rammurty Thakur, informed, “We support the entire concept of uniform dress code policy but it all depends upon the teachers that whether they will follow the concept or not. Neither the department nor any teacher associations is compelling any individual to accept the dress code. With mutual concern teachers can adopt it, as it will not only discriminate the teachers but will also compel the students of government school to strictly follow the uniform dress code.”
