With Tata Trust Chairman Ratan Tata nodding to the proposal of Chief Minister Raghubar Das made during Global Investors’ Summit last month,  a Cancer Research Centre cum Hospital in the capital city of the State is just a matter of time now. The government said today that the trust representatives met with Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department Additional Chief Secretary Sudhir Tripathi in this regard to take things forward.

“Tata Trust Chairman Ratan Tata has okayed CM’s request to him during GIS last month of establishing a cancer research centre cum hospital in the State. The government has received a letter of intent in this regard on March 10 and Trust representatives met with Sudhir Tripathi on Thursday in this regard to take things ahead. Tripathi has also been appointed nodal officer for the project,” said Principal Secretary to the CM Sanjay Kumar on Thursday.

He added that developing Ranchi as state-of-the-art medical hub of eastern India remained one of the foremost goals of the Chief Minister. “Cancer Research Centre cum Hospital from Tata Trust will prove to be a key step towards achieving this goal,” said Kumar.

Meanwhile, Tripathi did confirm one such meeting taking place on Thursday. “However, it was not for cancer hospital. The meeting of today was with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team of Tata Steel, which has been running a mobile eye-care centre in collaboration with Shanker Netralaya in the State among many other social works for some years. We wanted to speed up eye screening processes at our district centres, so that it could save time taken before operations by eye centre, and we could make maximum benefit out of them,” said Tripathi.

He added that a meeting with Tata Trust representatives, however, was likely to take place anytime this month itself to take procedures of cancer hospital ahead. Notably, the CM had written a letter to Ratan Tata on March 9 requesting him to speed up processes of cancer hospital. The CM had said in his letter that Jharkhand was a State with large population of primitive tribes and other scheduled tribes, leading a life below poverty line and a cancer hospital would help them a lot.
