The Bedding, Blending & Sinter Plant (BBSP2) known as BBSP#2 Plant at the Tata Steel plant in Jamshedpur celebrated 25 years of successful operations.

During the past 25 years the two sections of the Sinter Plant have contributed significantly to the journey of Tata Steel. Bedding, Blending & Sinter Plant known as BBSP#2 Plant started its magnificent journey in the year 1988, when Tata Steel embarked upon Phase-II of its Modernisation Programme to augment sinter production to 2.50 MTPA. It started under the stewardship of Dr JJ Irani, a dynamic leader with vision who could foresee the need to utilize the blue dust, rich in iron content, occurring in Noamundi iron mines.

Speaking on the momentous occasion, TV Narendran, managing director, Tata Steel, India & SEA said, “Over the last 25 years, the two sections of the Sinter Plant, RMBB1 and SP#2, have contributed significantly to enabling the Blast Furnaces to operate at optimum capacity. I take this opportunity to congratulate each member of Tata Steel family for their untiring efforts in this regard over the years.I am sure BB&SP2 will continue to produce agglomerates in record volumes and keep the Blast Furnaces at the Jamshedpur Steel Works running at optimum capacity in the years ahead as well.”

Anand Sen, president, TQM and Steel Business, Tata Steel, stated, “The BBSP-2, an integral part of the sinter plant has undergone a very impressive transition over the years, from 1988 to the way we see it today. As a part of the modernization drive of the company in 1988, the BBSP-2 was conceived to augment the sinter production to 2.5 M tons. In 25 years, the division has witnessed its share of crests & troughs while also registering several records, which we all are very proud of.”
