Unknown miscreants shot dead a Tata Steel employee, Satyadev Yadav (47), who was posted as a lineman at Jugsalai near a railway track linking, late last night.

On Tuesday, the city police nabbed three youths from Garib Nawaz Colony in Jugsalai with suspicion that they might be involved in the murder. The victim was rushed to the Tata Main Hospital by the staff and security guards where he was declared brought dead.

The officer-in-charge of the Jugsalai police station, Ashok Giri said that two bike-borne criminals shot at Yadav. He was standing near the railing of the driver’s cabin when he was shot at.  “We are investigating the incident but as per the initial probe it seems that the intention of shooting was not murder, but to create panic in the area, which is known for anti-social activities,” said Giri.

The officer-in-charge said the assailant who fired the shot at Yadav was not resident of Garib Nawaz Colony in Jugsalai, but some local youths from the Garib Nawaz Colony were in close contact with the shooter.

Meanwhile, following the police action against the suspects, a large number youths and men arrived at the Jugsalai police station in the morning and demanded the police to release those detained.

The police officer refused to reveal the names of those picked up for interrogation, claiming that it might hamper investigation. Meanwhile, a loco driver, Saroj Kumar, who was near Yadav, said that when the coal and mineral-laden loco train was coming to the company works in the afternoon, some criminals had tried to stop the train. These persons might be behind the attack.

“The same criminals might have plotted the gun-shot attack on the staff on the loco train when it was returning back to the shunting yard,” said Kumar while talking to the newsmen.

The police have sent the body of Satyadev Yadav to MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem examination in the morning. Yadav, a resident of Baridih, is survived by his wife and three children.
