Tata Steel employee Jiten Singh Nag (25) hanged himself at his house in Tuiladungri during the wee hours on Wednesday. His family said Jiten did not emerge from his room since the night before and the door was finally broken open by late morning.

The police were informed and the body sent to MGM Medical College for post-mortem.

Inspector Nehaluddhin Khan of the Golmuri Police Station said investigations were on, in the absence of any suicide note. “last night, when family members asked him to eat, Jiten said he had already had dinner at the company canteen. He also went to bed early,” Khan added.

Jiten’s cellphone and a SIM card from his wallet have been recovered by the police. Neighbours said there had not been anything untoward in Jiten’s behaviour. He had joined Tata Steel after completing a diploma course from a technical institute two years ago.
