Tata Power’s Maithon Power limited (MPl), a 74:26 joint venture between Tata Power and DVC, has installed solar light pipes and turbo ventilators at its MPl main store. This unique and ecofriendly system will collect solar light and disperse it inside the building. The turbo ventilator will operate with the help of atmospheric wind speed to ensure that MPl’s main store remains appropriately ventilated. With the installation of solar lights MPl’s main store will eliminate the use of electrical lights altogether.
The objective of this activity is to put into action a sustainable initiative as identified under the SMART 21 programme. The solar lights and turbo ventilators will benefit the company and community at large by helping in reducing its carbon footprint by harnessing and using freely available solar light and atmospheric wind. It will also help reduce MPl’s auxiliary power and bulb replacement cost. The introduction of atmospheric wind powered turbo ventilators will provide MPl’s main store with a cost free ventilation system. Over 32 lights having been installed.
Speaking about the sustainability initiative, K Chandrashekhar, CEO & ED - MPl stated, “Tata power has always led by action when it has come to implementing social and business reforms. With an increased pressure on the natural resources at our disposal, we as responsible custodians have to play our part in ensuring a greener and carbon neutral planet. By installing solar lights and turbo ventilators at our main store in MPl we have taken a small but significant step towards reducing our carbon footprints.”
