Tata Power has always been working towards providing safe and clean drinking water in the areas surrounding its operations. Upholding this commitment, Tata Power, in association with the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department of Government of Jharkhand, has installed hand-pumps at 20 locations across the villages of Kuda, Tiruldih, and Chara and Gundaldih of Kukru block, to help mitigate the issue of clean drinking water.
The objective of this initiative was to cater to the basic need of the rural communities who were deprived of safe drinking water because of contaminated ponds and non-functional hand-pumps. Contaminated water used by the local communities led to the mass prevalence of diseases like diarrhea, common fever and jaundice. To counter this issue, Tata Power carried out a series of activities, like an awareness programme on the importance of pure drinking water, installation of new hand-pumps and also repairing of non-functional hand-pumps.
Commenting on the initiative, DSantra, Head – Tiruldih Project, said, “We, at Tata Power, have always organised various community development programmes in different areas like Health, Education, livelihood, etc. Following the philosophy to improve the quality of life of our communities, we have worked towards providing clean drinking water to the villagers as the need of quality water was high due to the rampant prevalence of diseases. We will constantly support and always respond to the needs of our surrounding communities by continuously adopting such initiatives in the future.”
