The people can look forward to express their views and suggestions to streamline the traffic problems in the steel city. A 15-member traffic task force has been constituted with the joint order of the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal and SSP East Singhbhum Anoop T Mathew to find out a solution to the traffic snarls at major arteries of the city during rush hours. The first meeting of the newly constituted task force, led by city SP Chandan Jha was held on Tuesday. Representatives from transport, traffic police, local urban bodies and Tata Steel/Jusco participated in the meeting held at district collectorate.
East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal said that they have decided to open an e-mail and a whatsapp number for the people by this week to give their suggestions and recommendations for solving traffic issues in city. He said that the increasing number of the vehicles in the city, especially the two wheelers, brings traffic movement to a halt. The traffic police find it too difficult to control the traffic on the busy streets.“We will declare an e-mail of the traffic task force along with a whatsapp number on which people can give their recommendation and suggestions to improve traffic system in the city. They can also send pictures of traffic violations along with their recommendation. All the recommendations will be discussed at the subsequent meeting of the traffic task force atleast once a week,” said city SP Chandan Jha after the meeting. With expansion programmes of Tata Steel and other companies, there has been a rise in the number of heavy vehicles. The pitiable road conditions are also to be blamed as it often causes breakdown of vehicles. Moreover cases of mishaps have also shoot up.
“We are keeping an eye on the situation and will do whatever is needed for streamlining the traffic with the available infrastructure,” the deputy commissioner added.“Traffic management is one of the biggest challenges during the festive season. Traffic diversion, which the traffic administration is talking off, as a part of arrangement during the important days is nothing but doing the duty for name sake,” said a member of the task force. The task force during the meeting also discussed about long term strategies. “The meeting ponder on problem areas of traffic identified under short term strategies will be dealt immediately and the result will be seen on the roads within two months,” said Chandan Jha.
The task force has identified prosecution against violation of no-entry restrictions by heavy commercial vehicles, crackdown on public mode of transport, and auto-rickshaws stopping in the middle of busy arteries to pick up passengers, drunken driving, rash driving, drive for use of helmets and crackdown on overloading school vans. “The sole purpose behind seeking cooperation from public is to ensure free movement of vehicles. The onus lies on the people too, who should practice traffic rule while plying vehicles on the busy roads,” said an official.
