Tara rejoins shooting, police grill mom-in-law

After about two-month-long ordeal of being subjected to forced conversion attempt and extreme domestic violence, national shooter Tara Shahdeo today joined the ‘true love’ of her life as she went to practice shooting at the Mega Sports Complex of Khelgaon in Ranchi.

Tara, who had gone to Sports Minister Geetashree Oraon seeking a position of coach in the sports department, is eyeing a Gold in the 2016 Olympic Games. She has been saying that her only aim after the worst experience of life was to excel in the Olympic Games and all other things come in the least set of priorities.

Shahdeo went to the Shooting Range at Khelgaon in the forenoon amid tight security with her friends and relatives and tried her hand at rifle shooting. She also met with the shooting team members of Jharkhand and exchanged pleasantries with them.

Talking to media persons at the shooting range Shahdeo said that she was too happy to rejoin shooting after about two months’ gap. “I am quite frail at the moment and have gathered enough courage to come here. I don’t know whether I will be able to hold the rifle for long,” she said before entering the range.

Meanwhile, Ranchi police, who have taken Ranjit Singh Kohli’s mother Kaushlya Rani on two-day remand, interrogated her on the first day taking her statement based on the allegations of torture and forced religious conversion made by Tara Shahdeo in the FIR.

“We have been asking her about the allegations made by Shahdeo and she has so far denied them. The probe team is taking her detailed statement in the case,” said Ranchi SSP Prabhat Kumar.

On being asked whether she had been questioned about forced religious conversion issue, Kumar said that it had been denied by her. “Since the matter is under investigation it would be too early to say anything about the intensity of the alleged crime. Police are taking all aspects of investigation under consideration,” the SSP said.

However, sources revealed that Rani has admitted domestic violence by her son and nikah during interrogation. She said that the nikah was solemnized in the knowledge of Shahdeo’s parents, sources added.

Ranjit Singh Kohli, who has been sent to judicial custody after six-day remand of police, has applied for bail of her mother from the local court. The court is scheduled to hear the bail plea on September 17.

Kohli and her mother Kaushlya Rani are facing charges of forced religious conversion, domestic violence, physical and mental torture after Shahdeo lodged an FIR against them.
