'Talking of development amid hunger, malnourishment unethical'

Professor Jean Drèze has said that India is the capital in the matter of hunger and malnourishment, calling Bihar and Jharkhand as the centre point of it. He also said that talking of development, justice, education, sanitation and security in the environment of hunger and malnourishment is unethical.

“After the direction of Supreme Court and interference of employment rights campaign, we have reached to a stage of providing one egg per day to the students in schools of Tamil Nadu. As many as 25 lakh ladies are employed actively in MDM scheme across the state; no company in the world provides employment to the people at such a large scale,” said Jean Drèze.

Dreze was speaking during the seventh State Conference for Right to food campaign in Jharkhand. The conference was inaugurated by the Advisor to the Commissioner of Supreme Court Balram Ji. The conference was attended by the representatives of Bihar Jharkhand and Chattisgarh.
