TAC nod to bank loan on tribal land

The Tribal Advisory Council on Monday gave its approval to the proposal for bank loan against tribal land. Chief Minister Raghubar Das chaired the meeting where the approval of the proposal, which was put up by a sub-committee formed under the chairmanship of Rural Development Minister Nilkanth Singh Munda was given.

After approval of this bill, members of ST community can take loans from the banks for the purpose of education, self employment and other things easily and repay it. Banks were not granting loans against tribal land as the land could not be sold or transferred to non-tribals under the tenancy acts of Chhotnagpur and Santhal Pargana. Now the government would be a guarantor to such loans.

The committee also discussed to nominate a Joint Secretary for scheduled tribe developmental schemes and proposed to conduct TAC meeting in different divisions. The next meeting will take place in Santhal Pargana. The CM congratulated all on the recommendation and approval of banks for business and housing construction.

Other important issues discussed in the meeting included thee matter of providing funds to Sarana Samiti for constructing boundary in Zaher, up-gradation of Standard 1-5 residential schools by Welfare Department, freeing the hostels from unauthorised occupancy and appointment of nurses and other staff for the nursing colleges to be opened in the State.

Rural Development Minister Nilkanth Singh Munda, Welfare Minister Dr. louis Marandi, Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma, Additional CS Amit Khare, members of TAC and Principal Secretaries and Secretaries of different departments were present on this occasion.

Notably, members of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and AJSU Party remained absent from the meeting. The JMM leader has been boycotting the meetings of TAC over government’s decision to amend the CNT and SPT Acts. The AJSU party is also in principle against the decision.
