A key Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting on Tuesday discussed ways to get Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) representation in Government jobs based on their comparative share in the State’s population. The share would be district-specific, unlike the earlier provision that is uniformly applicable to the entire Jharkhand.
Highly-placed sources and TAC members said after the meeting that many on the committee were in favour of the amendment, although it needed to be covered under Article 309 of the Constitution, since the upper limit for reservation may be over the 50 per cent bar in most of the districts.
