2,800 tablets will be deployed

Marking a unique achievement, the State postal department will soon distribute Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) payments with the help of tablets. The initiative is being taken in collaboration with the State Government.

“Overall 2,800 tablets will be utilised for the payments.  Customers will have to show Aadhaar cards to receive the payments and then their signature or thumb impression will be taken on the tablet. As of now, the process is being tested in 10 gram panchayats where the plan is successful. We will launch distribute 400 tablets in the first phase after the weeklong celebrations for World Post Day concludes on October 15,” Chief Postmaster General Abhay Shekhar Prasad told the media persons on Wednesday.

A detailed meeting over the launch will be conducted soon. “We have also done an MOU with Flipkart and E-bay for e-commerce since post office is the cheapest mode of money transfer. E-parcel service would be revamped under the technology,” added Prasad.

There are over 1 crore customers having an account in the 454 post offices of the State. Jharkhand’s post offices are the second biggest contributor in such a data. The department has succeeded in establishing core-banking facilities in all the urban post offices and working on the extension to rural post offices.

Postmaster General Anil Kumar said to strengthen continuous availability of broadband within the premises of post offices they have an alternate connection of Sify apart from BSNl.
