A non-matric with couple of plots of land before 2005 on his name becomes the proud owner of pent houses for him and his wife in 2014! Another 36-year old lad from Bhawnathpur with no tax liability five years ago has filed Income Tax return of `8.91 lakh and shown properties crossing `2.12 crore this year!
The tale tell is of none other than the politicians who enjoyed their proximity in power and utilised their brief presence in the Madhu Koda Government.
Kamlesh Singh is poorer than his wife and the reason behind is not hard to be found. He bought all his 10 plots, residential apartments and pent houses, mostly for his better half after 2006. His wife leaving behind her rainy days amassed movable assets of `85.15 lakh and immovable worth of `89.33 lakh during the period.
Though, the swing in fortune did not come without cost. Kamlesh Singh with some petty cases against him before he was chosen as MlA for the first time in 2005 is facing charges under the Prevention of Money laundering Act, Prevention of Corruption Act, acquiring wealth disproportionate to known source of income before Special CBI courts. “If found guilty, the charges he is facing can make him disqualified from the Assembly and contesting elections as per the recent ruling of the Supreme Court,” says senior High Court advocate Rajeev Kumar.
Kamlesh, who had won in 2005 with just 35-odd votes and went on becoming Minister in the tainted Madhu Koda regime charged for scam of over `2,500 crore lost in 2009 and is again into the fray this time.
Another notable member of the so called ‘crooked cabinet’ was Bhanu Pratap Shahi who served as labour and Health and Family Welfare Minister during Koda regime had just three cases against him. He went on accumulating at least 10 cases under 36 sections of IPC, SC/ST Act, Cl Act and PR Act in 2014 in which the court has taken cognizance and five on them can send him for more than two years behind the bars.
Shahi in 2009 has not shown any tax liability in his ITR. Though, in his latest affidavit he has filled return for `8.91 lakh and his wife for `5.14 lakh. His cash in hand and bank deposits total is `51.75 lakh. He purchased apartment in Ranchi in 2007 whose current value rose up to `50 lakh, another flat for `32 lakh in Ranchi in 2013 and took accumulative prices of his earned assets over `2.12 crore. Notably, he remained off-power during 2009-2014 and is trying his best to reverse his fortune once again this time.
Anosh Ekka is facing cases under PMlA and criminal misconduct by pubic servant with the Special CBI court and charges have been framed against his as well in 2011 and 2012. It is because in his heydays i.e. during 2005-08, the former Minister bought over 29 acres of land. Though, the Enforcement Directorate has attached the land with it as a part of the investigation. He has also been told by the Income Tax dept to provide source of `7.43 crore of income made during assessment year 2006-07 to 2010-11.
Moreover the alleged kingpin Madhu Koda is there with his gross asset measuring `11 crore and 1.5 acres of land purchased between 2003 and 2006. Facing seven charges under PMlA, IT and Representation of People’s Act with the CBI, Koda has turned poorer presumably due to keeping away from power. He could earn just `9.98 lakh and his wife Geeta Koda `5.69 lakh during 2011-12.
The old folks are together again and looking to resurrect the downslide but not without the fear of the current ruling that has killed giants of the likes of lalu Prasad and J Jayalalitha.
