Three-day Swarnrekha Mahotsav started with ‘Youth Fest’ on Tuesday at Rancichuaan in Nagri block. The three-day long festival will focus on spreading the message of maintaining purity of water bodies and the theme that would underscore the message of cleanliness of water resources is ‘cleanliness campaign of water resources’.

The fest was inaugurated on Tuesday to celebrate birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda to associate youths with the cleanliness campaign that will be slowly spread to other parts of the state from the originating point of river Swarnrekha. The grand festival of river worship is being jointly organised by Swarnrekha Kshetra Vikas Manch, Yugantar Bharti and Swami Vivekananda Gramin Vikas Sanstha.

“There will be a statewide campaign to clean water bodies in the State. The campaign will begin from the originating point of Swarnrekha from January 14 and after that we will embark on awareness drive at places along the banks of the river to educate people to not pollute the river,” said chairman of the orgranising committee. Tapeshwar Keshri. Organisers expect that the fest is likely to be flocked by nearly 1-lakh people on the concluding day and besides entertainment it would offer farming insight to farmers on Tuesday through agriculture fest and exhibition.

Meanwhile, unlike previous two festivals, the department of Tourism stayed away from the annual festival in the absence of any formal request by the organising committee. The department had sponsored previous two fests. “This is not the department’s programme and we never directly participated in the event. We only assisted the organizing committee which had come to us for assistance. This year they have not approached us so we are not involved in the event,” said Deputy Secretary of Tourism, Sunil Kumar Sinha. The concluding day of the ceremony is likely to be attended by Speaker of Jharkhand Assembly, Dinesh Oraon whereas Minister Saryu Roy will pay obeisance to the river at Jamshedpur.
