Amidst untiring cleanliness drives going on in the city to achieve good ranks in the Cleanliness Survey 2018, the ongoing Khadi and Saras Mela at Morhabadi is spreading out message of cleanliness on the premises and is inspiring people to maintain the standard of cleanliness displayed in their vicinity.

Unlike other events there are plenty of urinals and toilets inside the Mela with round the clock cleanliness on the premises. As many as 75 lavatories are installed inside the fair for shopkeepers and visitors along with four mobile toilets installed near stage and office area. To maintain the cleanliness of the fair 10 cleaning staffs are provided by Municipal Corporation and 40 women cleaning staffs are employed by the management of fair.

Sanjay Seth, Chairman of Jharkhand State Khadi Gramodyog Board said, “we have worked diligently to provide clean premise with necessary amenities to the visitors and is a step forward in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of Swachchh Bharat.”

Manju Devi aged 73 visited Khadi Mela on December 25 from Namkom and was appreciative of the fact that hygiene is on priority list of the organisers. “Previously women used to face problems due to either unavailability or pity condition of lavatories in fairs like this,” she said.

Sanket Khanna, another visitor from Ranchi was astonished by the cleanliness of the fair premises and said, “I have been to other fares conducted in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Bangalore but never seen such good arrangements made for hygiene. It is a proud moment for me as local boy from Ranchi.”

Strict implementation of the State Government’s instruction to ensure ban on plastic use is done by the organisers at Khadi Saras Mela. Shopkeepers are strictly instructed to disengage from polybag in their stalls and noncompliance to the instruction will initiate proceedings against the accused. Notably, the Government  has made

provision for fine and imprisonment extending upto one year to make the state polyethylene free.

The move is part of an attempt to ensure that the Capital City of the State secures better rank in the Swachhta Sarvekshan 2018. In the previous conducted survey Ranchi got 117th rank and denizen of Ranchi expects it to shoot up due to the reformation brought among them through

awareness created by various means like Cleanliness Fortnight, Swachchhta App, Street Plays etc.
