Surat's Tiranga being sold at post offices in Palamu

Published on:

Surat's ( A city in Gujarat) Tirangas are on sale here at the counters of post offices in Palamu. It is being sold at 38 registered post offices besides 600 plus branch post offices too.

The Surat Tiranga is priced 25 rupees each but its quality is very inferior to the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society's Tiranga which is 7 rupees cheaper per Tiranga than the Surat's Tiranga. Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society's Tiranga comes for 18 rupees only. It is 16 inches wide and 24 inches long.

The district programme manager of the JSLPS Bimlesh Kumar Shukla said we are working at neck break speed to cope with the growing demand for the Tirangas. Shukla said the Rehla based caustic chemical factory has placed an order for 50,000 Tirangas and we are determined to honour it.

The Grasim industries in Gujarat Surat is the seller of the Tirangas and it is sending bulk quantities of it to Ranchi from where it is being distributed among the post offices and branch post offices in Palamu.

Sources said Surat is a textile hub but Tiranga making should have been left to Didis of the Sakhi Mandals here in Jharkhand which could have ameliorated their sufferings and enhanced their income.

In Palamu alone there are more than 17,700 plus Sakhi Mandals with a membership of more than 2.11 lakh of women which could have been a good stakeholder in the Tiranga making and its trading.

The Surat's  Tiranga is not of Khadee which is also a matter of sadness as Khadee is so out of the Tiranga from the land of Bapu said many here.

Again the quality of the Surat's Tiranga is doubtful to bear wear and tear in the high wind while the Tiranga of the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Scheme is of robust fabric and is weighty in comparison to the Surat's Tiranga.

The postmaster of the Head Post office Daltonganj Uma Shankar Sharma Bhatt said we are getting huge orders for the Tirangas which we receive from Ranchi.

Bhatt said we understand by August 12 or 13 we will be selling off 100,000 of the Tirangas @ of 25 rupees per national  flag.

He said we are getting orders for the Tiranga from the NCC office, schools, municipal corporation, business houses etc.
