Anand Kumar, the mathematician-cum-founder of ‘Super 30’ programme which shapes 30 meritorious students from economically backward section for admission into Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) wants Jharkhand Government’s support. In a chit chat with The Pioneer on the sidelines of an award ceremony at the State capital on Sunday, he expressed his desire to select talented rural aspirants in collaboration with the State Government. Excerpts:
About the recent planning of Super 30.
Initially, our prime focus is on publicity and broadcasting of Super 30 and search new methods of selecting deserving candidates. Moreover, we are mulling to reach the poor and elite class aspirants through online classes at a nominal fee of around Rs500 to Rs1000. It is likely to commence from 2016. Hopefully, the entire mathematics course will be covered within the same amount. The revenue generated through this effort will be used for selecting aspirants from other states and thereafter they will be sponsored and included in Super 30 course. Also, we want to increase the intake of students.
Your opinion about Jharkhand students
In the recent scenario it has been noticed that many aspirants of Jharkhand are coming to our institute and achieving success. This clearly indicates that the State has lots of potential. They need a proper guidance for getting into the premiere engineering institutions. Presently, they are devoid of such facilities.
Plans for such students
last year a test was successfully conducted here for our course. This year also we will be organising a test in Jharkhand in the month of May. It will basically be held for students who are unable to join our institute due to financial crunch. The seat limit would be decided on the basis of available resources and performance of students.
Expectations from Jharkhand government
The Governments of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have offered me to visit their States and plan something for the tribal rural students in coming years. Similar support is expected from Jharkhand Government so that we can reach to the students of interior villages and select the talented ones. In case they approach us, we will definitely accept it.
Interested in inviting aluminous of Super 30
Aluminous of our institute who have passed out from IITs and are placed in renowned companies of India and outside are giving us giving us constant support. Two or three months back I visited MIT and Harvard wherein the Technology department of these universities have assured to coordinate so that we can reach the meritorious students residing in the interiors areas.
