Subsidence near grand chord tracks under MPL railway line

Published on:

Yet another subsidence of land took place within the surrounding of  Shyamnagar on Tuesday morning with a 20 feet deep ditch under MPL railway line. About fifty meter radius of the area is affected surrounding the tracks. This happens to be the third subsidence within a fortnight period and the current one is very close to the grand chord railway line of railways connecting Howrah - New Delhi via Dhanbad .

Residents of Shyamnagar said the area subsided with a huge bang on early Tuesday morning affecting movement of goods trains towards MPL from Thaparnagar station. This line was constructed for transporting coal to Maithon thermal power station.

Since the area is just about 30 meters away from the busy grand chord tracks thus it's supposed that these tracks may too be under threat of subsidence .

Earlier  on August 16 the road leading to Shyaamnagar via Thaparnagar railway station had witnessed such an incident when cracks had appeared on the road .

On August 18 subsidence at Dahibari coal mines of  CV area of BCCL  had caused losses to the company. Then a  drilling machine had slipped in a 500 meter ditch due to subsidence.
