The NCC cadets of the DAV Gumla troop from 46 Jharkhand battalion conducted a massive cleanliness drive under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement at the famous historical monument of Navratangarh.
The cadets have been given a target under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement where they have to conduct cleanliness drives for creating awareness. The activity was carried out with much zeal and enthusiasm by the students. Principal D. K. Mahto said, “Students should be aware of their cultural heritage and work towards protecting it.”
Navratangarh being a historical monument is not so popular and hence was chosen as a site for the event to create awareness about it. Navratangarh was the capital of the Nagvanshi rulers of Jharkhand and they were the ones to give this province its name Chotanagpur. The Nagvanshi Kingdom was one of the most princely states in British India. They ruled over the Chotanagpur plateau for almost two thousand years from the 1st century till 1951 till the system of zamindari was abolished. It is located in the Sisai block of Gumla district in Jharkhand and is about 80kms from the capital city of Ranchi.
One of the teachers Abhijeet Jha said, “A cleanliness drive should not just be symbolic. Our motive is to create self awareness and we wanted to do something different. Taking care of a treasure of history should not be just the government’s responsibility alone but our fundamental duty too.”
Subedar Major M. K. Gogoi, Subedar Devendra Singh, Subedar Brijesh and Subedar Veerbahadur were also present for the cleanliness drive.
