Students of Women's College demand deployment of lady constables on campus

A delegation of students from the Women's College on Monday met the DSP, CCR (crime control room) and demanded lady constables in the campus.

They protested against female private security guards at the campus. On Saturday the three female private security guards had assaulted a group of first year students who was in a queue to submit their admission forms.

The incident snowballed into a major controversy when the college authorities announced that the college would only accept commerce applications on the same day. A group of arts students thus protested as they were waiting in queue against the move.

While the students started protesting, the three female private security guards started assaulting the students. The students have also alleged that a similar incident took place on Friday but the principal has surprisingly kept mum on the incident.

" The situation at our college is getting out of control and we met the DSP CCR, Jacinta Kerketta demanding two lady constables in campus. These are common incidents but private security guards do not have the right to assault anybody," said Archana Singh, one of the students who is also associated with a students’ union.

After the students met Kerketta, the latter have assured two lady constables will be deployed for a short period of time. Kerketta informed the students that if the college wants to depute lady constables, the principal would have to write a letter to the senior superintendent of police, East Singhbhum requesting the same.

The Jamshedpur Women's College deputed private security guards about a couple of months ago when students of business administration protested demanding degrees for their courses from the university.
