Showing solidarity with Ranchi’s Nirbhaya, more than a thousand of engineering students on Monday blocked Ranchi-Hazaribagh road at Booty More for over five hours, demanding justice for the girl who was allegedly raped and murdered while she was alone in her house on Friday. The students were demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the heinous crime.
Students of Ram Tahal Chaudhary Institute of Technology, where the victim was studying, first marched towards Booty More from their hostels shouting anti-Government slogans and blocked the road making hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road for several kilometres. later, students from Cambridge Institute of Technology and Birsa Institute of Technology also joined in, creating complete blockade of Booty More during which no vehicle from any side was allowed to move.
The police after several attempts finally succeeded in convincing the students around 5 pm that the culprits will be arrested soon, the students returned to their hostels.
“There is an outrage among students…we are trying to convince them that the whole team has been roped in to investigate the case which is being monitored by the top police officials. We are quite sure that we will be able to solve the case very soon,” said SP City Kishore Kaushal. He, however, refused to share the details of investigations citing reasons that it will not be proper to say anything in this regard.
“Some leads have been gathered on which work out is being done. We are quite hopeful that the case will be solved very soon,” said the City SP.
Meanwhile, the students demanded Chief Minister Raghubar Das to come and give assurance that the culprits will be arrested soon by the police. They were also holding placards demanding justice for Ranchi’s Nirbhaya.
“We are demanding justice for Ranchi’s Nirbhaya. Even after four days of the incident, the police have not been able to even reach out to any conclusion. We are not able to understand, what they are doingIJ It is only detaining and releasing the people for interrogations but failed to reach out to any suspect. How much time they need…they demanded two days’ time but failed to reach out to any conclusion,” said a second year engineering student Pooja of RTC Institute of Technology.
The students alleged that the State Government has failed to maintain law and order in the State as a girl is not safe even in her house.
“People are disappointed with the State Government as a girl is not safe even in her own house. Seriousness of the matter could be gauged with the fact that the culprits barged into her house and murdered after raping her and the police even after 72 hours of the incident are not able to reach out to the culprits. Girls are living under fear as no one knows who will be the next,” said another student leader Badal Singh.
A semi-naked charred body of the a 19-year old victim of a third semester student of Ram Tahal Chaudhary Institute of Technology was found in the morning inside her own house on Friday. She was alone at home when the incident took place on Friday. Originally from CMPDI Colony of Barkakana, the girl was living with her elder sister in Booti Basti in a rented accommodation.
