The activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) created ruckus and demonstrated at the Jamshedpur Co-operative College (JCC) campus on Wednesday.
They opposed the appointment of SS Razi as the new professor-in-charge of the college in place of RK Das, the former principal of the college.
They opposed the decision of Kolhan University vice-chancellor, RPP Singh to suspend Das and Sumita Mukherjee, professor-in-charge of Jamshedpur Women’s College and appointing Razi and Sujata Sinha without informing the members of the syndicate.
ABVP activists were supported by other student unions including NSUI (National Students Union of India) and JVCM (Jharkhand Vikas Chhatra Morcha). They had locked the principal’s chamber on Tuesday and requested Razi to not take charge as a professor-in-charge of the college.
Though no FIR was lodged, the police was informed by the college authorities to control the situation.
“There were some students who created this ruckus and some who greeted me. Since the intermediate examinations are underway, the college informed the police who came and took stock of the situation,” said Razi.
ABVP national executive member Amitabh Senapati led a delegation to Ranchi and handed over a memorandum to the Governor. They demanded immediate probe into the immediate suspension of the former principal.
