Student unions disrupt VC's parting tune

Student Unions on Tuesday interrupted Ranchi University (RU) Vice-Chancellor lN Bhagat the moment he was addressing the media on his achievements as the V-C. Bhagat will be retiring from his three year tenure on January 31.

Initially, they entered the V-C’s lobby shouting for their demands. When they tried to enter V-C’s hall through his office where Bhagat, accompanied by Pro-VC M Raziuddin was briefing the media, the guards tried to stop them and a scuffle took place. Immediately, VC had to take a break from the media people and returned to his office. The demand of the students included illegal money charged from students by examination department staff for scrutiny of answer sheets or producing migration certificates. Such complaints were reported earlier as well but the authorities failed to take action. Both, V-C and Pro-VC called the examination in-charge and directed to stop such unfavourable advantages. After an hour, the V-C assured the students to announce the instruction through a notification.

The protest was led by ABVP and NSUI members. Among the protestors, there were students from various colleges who complained answer sheets of their Part 1 and Part 2 exam have not been re-checked. “Our classes were held on the basis of new syllabus but the exam question papers of honours and subsidiary subjects were based on old syllabus. Teachers asked us to submit blank answer sheets or write if we are interested. later, the results were held,” said a student of Doranda College.

“Our next exam will be conducted in March. We have been requesting the V-C to declare the result or take a decision over the matter. But, he kept assuring us verbally. We want justice before he retires,” said a Part 2 student of Gossner College.

Prior to the powerpoint presentation of the achievements, Bhagat informed about the celebration of film festival in collaboration with New Castle University, Australia at Aryabhatt Auditorium on January 19. The certificates of successful college students from NUSSD is scheduled on January 22 while Workstation for Micro-Analysis of Census Data from January 2001 to 2011 is to be unveiled on January 29.
