Bitten by a stray dog - WhatsApp the Urban Development Department ( UDD) if the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation ( DMC) is not taking action to check stray dogs. The town administration directorate of UDD has issued five ways to lodge complaints if not only the DMC but as matter of fact any urban civil body of Jharkhand fails to tackle this menace. Besides , WhatsApp, the people can also file complaints on tollfree no, email besides landline and on the website of the directorate too.
The most unfortunate part is that city streets and localities are flooded with uncountable numbers of such dogs but no action is being taken by the civic body for removing them though they often become the cause of accidents besides dog bite cases.
In Dhanbad there was a stray dog catcher van but it has been lying unused since long though according to DMC there happen to be over 10,000 stray dogs on city roads in the coal capital.
DMC CEO Satyendra Kumar said , the work of dog catching had to be suspended due to protests of some animal activists. However, we would start a drive to catch them and sterilize them soon ,he said.
Incidentally, this programme has been pending for the last six years .
It's not only stray dogs but stray cattle too are a big hazard for common people in the marketplace.
Manoranjan Singh, president of Hirapur Hatia Businessman's Association said ,"Our complaint of stray bulls and oxens roaming about in the market place is yet to be attended by DMC. The corporation has no system to remove them as it lacks a kanji house. Complaintants are asked to shift those to goshalas but are not provided any assistance from the DMC" , he said..
