Roaming cows and other stray cattle on streets of Hazaribagh have turned out a big challenge for municipal corporation these days. From Main road to national highway (NH-33 and NH-100) which passes from midtown, cows seen moving in large numbers with many killed by speeding vehicles in the night.

local people said that owner of these cows are responsible for this cow menace. They said after milking the cow, morning and evening, they leave them on the road.

Sources said on Hazaribagh-Barkagaon road, Hazaribagh-Giridih road (NH-100) and Ranchi-Patna highway (NH-33) around 12 cows got killed by speeding vehicles in a month. Drivers of the heavy vehicles said these cows after roaming on the streets used to sit near sharp bend of any stretch resulting in killing. It's not possible to notice the cow sitting at any such turn or bend in night, a driver added.

But another problem town facing is cows moving on various thoroughfares of the town including main road. It has become tough for commuters as well as for women, children and old aged persons to cross any point seeing the four legged animals. Even cows sit on important roundabout with traffic police never cares to chase it away, added Ravi Ranjan Singh, a businessman. He said bitter fact is that new representatives have taken charge at corporation office but are totally blind eye towards this problem.

Ranjan Choudhary, representative of sadar MlA Manish Jaiswal said number of times, he had arranged treatment facility for injured cows. He said this is a worst practice seen in Hazaribag by cow owners.

When The Pioneer brought this problem into the knowledge of deputy mayor Rajkumar lal, he said he also thinking of the ways to tackle this menace. He said last time corporation had caught such cows and sent them to Pinjrapol Gaushala, where cows are kept and taken care.

But he said Pinjrapol demanded amount from corporation for keeping the cows. lal said it was not possible to fulfill this demand in lack of fund in this regard. He said they were trying to find the ways to find solution of this problem but added that cow owners should also understand their responsibility.
