Stranded in Tamil Nadu; 36 Dumka girls set to return home

The ordeal of 36 migrant girls stranded in Tamil Nadu seems to be over as they are likely to return to their home in the next couple of days. All these girls from Dumka were working at Cotton Blossom (India) Private Limited at Tirupur in Tamil Nadu.

But they were stranded after Tamil Nadu Government also imposed lockdown and the company suspended production for the time being. They wanted to return to Jharkhand as they had no money. Even the company management refused to financially help them to get a train ticket. Girls alleged that the owner of the company refused to allow them to visit their home.

A Dhanbad-based NGO Shubh Sandesh Foundation came forward to help them. This NGO had played a key role to bring back 26 labourers of Jharkhand from Nepal with the help of the Jharkhand Government. The NGO raised the issue with the Jharkhand government for the safe return of these girls.

The NGO arranged train tickets for 36 girls and they are set to catch train no 03352 Alleppey-Dhanbad special on June 2. They will reach Dhanbad on the morning of June 4 if the plan goes as per the schedule. But their travel ticket is not confirmed. The NGO has requested Chennai division of southern railway to confirm their ticket.

On being contacted Dumka DC Rajeshwari B confirmed that plans have been made for the safe return of these girls.

“Initially, train tickets have been arranged by the NGO. The State Government and the district administration will ensure that their travel ticket is confirmed. Once they reach Dhanbad, they will be taken to Dumka,” said Dumka DC.
