Unknown criminals stole away an ambulance van of Ranchi district Sadar hospital from the hospital premise on Monday wee hours under Lower Bazaar police station of the city capital despite knowing the risk that they can be exposed to deadly Covid-19 virus as most of the ambulances are being used for transportation of Covid-19 patients.
But luckily Ranchi police traced the missing ambulance (JH01K 2842) that was found parked abandoned on the roadside under Bundu police station area about 40 km from Sadar hospital. Sources in the health department and Ranchi police confided that the ambulance has been recovered and it is being examined whether any equipment or accessories of ambulance is missing or not.
“Theft took place around 1 AM on Monday night. An FIR was lodged in this regard. We are investigating whether this was a prank or vehicle lifting gang was involved in this,” said a senior official of Ranchi police. But it has raised concern over safety and security on the premise of Ranchi Sadar hospital situated in the heart of the city capital. PNS
There are as many as four police stations namely Kotwali, Lalpur, Lower Bazaar and Daily Market which are situated less than one km from the Sadar hospital where round the clock patrolling is done.
But then ambulances come under the essential service category and this is tough for police to suspect any foul play.
Ranchi Sadar hospital designated as super specialty hospital with 500 has a total four ambulances. Over a dozen of security guards remain posted on the premises for security whereas the hospital has a functional CCTV surveillance system.
On being contacted Ranchi civil surgeon Vijay Bihari Prasad said that the said ambulance was parked at a far corner of the hospital premise.
“But then this is a serious issue and overall security of the hospital will be enhanced. The matter is under investigation by the police,” said Prasad.
