Steel, coal city ready to celebrate New Year

Amidst the piercing chill, thunderous sound, electrifying lights and laser effects Dhanbad and Bokaro, the steel and coal capital of Jharkhand gears up to welcome the New Year- 2016 in its unique style.

All the major hotels, clubs in the twin cities have geared up to meet the needs of party animals with Rocking DJs, celebrity dances, stag parties and even fireworks.

While the police gear up for cracking down on drunk drivers and to handle massive crowd. Security had been beefed up on all the picnic spots. Police personnel, both uniformed and plain-clothed, are deployed in new-year hot-spots.

“We are taking a zero tolerance stance to eve-teasers and molesters. All police personnel on duty have been asked to take immediate action against such offenders”, said a police official.

Fearing with the red attacks most of the picnic spots in the Coal and Steel belt have a deserted look around the year end holidays as common people prefer indoor celebrations.

In comparison to earlier years’ celebrations, picnic spots like Maithon, Bhandia, Khandoli, Topchachi, Panchat Dam, Hathiya Pather, Tenughat, lalpaniya and several others including Parasnath (Giridih),  are not as crowded this time, told Aaju Kumar a resident of Maithon.

Red activities in these areas have stolen the peace of the police and peoples are too suspicious of visiting the places due to fear of repeated attacks by the maoists.

Deepak Kumar a teacher of Dhanbad based public school, who were earlier used to celebrate the eve at Maithon and Khandoli, said, “We don't want to put our lives including our students’ at risk and hence will prefer to celebrate the New Year functions at our homes”.
