The hindrance in mining works at private bauxite mines, closed since June 15, 2012 is causing a huge loss to the economy here. There are about 16 mines in this region. The bauxite mines of lohardaga and Gumla districts are the backbone of its economical infrastructure. These mines provide bread and butter to many of the families. At present only the mines of Hindalco are running.
The livelihood of many people is getting affected due to this closure. Dilip Kumar Tanti district mining officer said in a meet, “The Government has to suffer the loss of revenue as these private mines are closed for such a long period of time.”
Notably these private mines are closed since June 15, 2012. The reason for this is not getting NOC by environment department of the Governemnt. The process was in progress during president’s rule. When K Vijay Kumar, the chief advisor of the Governor visited the district, the people had made an appeal to resume the work at these mines. He had assured to take positive steps also for this. But after the Government formation, things remain the same.
