A Climate Change Unit (CCU) will be established soon to take action on this vital matter in State, Principal Secretary, Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Sukhdev Singh said while addressing the gathering of State-level climate change action plan workshop.

“Inclusion of different organisations is essential to achieve the target. Apart from this, trees’ density must be monitored including at what rate, we are producing carbon dioxide,” Principal Secretary, Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Sukhdev Singh pointed out.

The Department of Forest, Environment and climate change including other stakeholders working towards conservation of environment in collaboration with United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) and supported by Global Environment Facility (GEF) organised a workshop on ‘Market transformation and removal of barriers for effective implementation of State level climate change action plan’ focusing on different facets which includes identifying priority strategies specially relating to the energy sector with a focus on solar PV (RE) and energy efficiency in municipalities (EE).

The plan aims to design and implement common monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) system for selected climate change mitigation action plans including demonstrating specific climate change mitigation actions, establishing public-private partnerships and mobilizing both private and public sector investments. Scaling up and replication of the mitigation actions is also one of the main objective of the programme.

Projects like roof top solar power generation plants, rural renewal energy transformation which targets 409 villages, distribution of 3.2 lakh lED bulbs including demarcation of  small hydro power plant for which 14 water falls will be ready soon for 125 MW power generation.
