At least 15 new cases of coronavirus infection surfaced in State on Sunday. Among the 15 fresh cases, three are nurses who helped a woman from Hindpiri during her childbirth at Sadar hospital last week. The woman later was tested

Covid-19 positive. This is highest single day rise in cases in Jharkhand since the outbreak of disease.

The detection of infection in nurses is the first instance of members of medical fraternity  testing positive in Jharkhand.

Apart from three nurses, 12 other persons have tested positive. Out of the 12, two are from Lowadih near Kantatoli, eight persons from Hindpiri the hotspot of corona infection in State and two from Garhwa. With 15 fresh cases in Jharkhand, the number of coronavirus infected persons has gone up to 83.

Confirming the development, state health secretary, Nitin Madan Kulkarni said, “On Sunday 15 corona positive cases were detected. These fifteen cases include three nurses working at Sadar hospital.” Sources said that the maternity ward of Sadar hospital has been sealed after a woman from Hindpiri who gave birth to a child at ward was later tested positive.

After the Hindpiri woman was tested positive, more than 100 staff (nurses and other paramedics) samples were collected at Sadar Hospital.  While the reports of many were declared negative, these three nurses’ reports were found to positive. Out of 83 cases, 56 corona cases are from Ranchi which has been declared as red zone as number of corona positive cases in Ranchi has increased in past few days. Out of 56 cases, number of patients in Hindpiri is 50 which is hotspot area. At the same time, one positive case each has been found in Kantatoli and Bariatu and two each in Lowadih and Bero respectively.

The fresh cases are also cause for concern for senior police and administrative staff as one case is from Guru Nanak School – a sweeper who worked here. Sources said the emergence of fresh cases is cause of concern as many senior administrative officials including Ranchi DC and SSP will now have to quarantined as they used to visit Guru Nanak School where the district administration had set up control room for daily monitoring of corona cases in Ranchi.

The emergence of fresh cases is also worrisome for Ranchi district administration as virus is not confined to a particular region, but cases have been reported from across State Capital. Till now, cases have been reported from Bero, Bariatu, Kanta Toli, Lowadih, Piska More and Hindpiri – the hotspot.

On Saturday, after a corona positive was reported from Kantatoli in Ranchi the challenges faced by district administration have increased after the formation of Corona Containment Zone in Netaji Nagar area of Kantatoli after Hindpiri.  The District administration now has to find the source and search for the infected person with door-to-door screening in Netaji Nagar.
