Come August and around 41,000 State-run schools will have sufficient teachers to teach students studying in classes 1 to 5. The Human Resource Development (HRD) department has set a deadline of July 31 to complete the formalities and hand over appointment letters to Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) passed candidates to teach at the lower primary level.
“We have directed all the District Superintendents of Education (DSEs) to upload the database of TET candidates who had applied for classes 1 to 5 under primary level by July second week. Accordingly, candidates will get one week for scrutinizing their objections. Database is finalized in most of the districts and waiting for the website upload. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and HRD minister Geetashree Oraon will be giving away the appointment letters by July end,” Primary Education Director Jeetwahan Oraon said.
Till date, Ranchi is the only district which has uploaded the requisite database. Meanwhile, HRD Principal Secretary K Vidyasagar has called a review meeting of all the DSEs on July 8 with a status report on teachers’ recruitment. Highlighting the relevance of the meeting, Oraon said, “Meeting regarding this issue was held on June 18. DSEs have also been asked to come up with a status report of teachers involved in non-teaching works.”
HRD minister Geetashree Oraon said there are “glitches” in the process requiring rectification prior to the appointment. “TET problems will be discussed in the scheduled review meeting,” sources said. On the other hand, the recruitment of teachers for class 6 to 8 (upper primary level) is yet to gain momentum. “Finance department needs proper clarifications on various queries like school building status, number of students in these schools along with water and toilet facilities to approve teachers’ recruitment for classes 6 to 8. The report for these queries was submitted to the Finance department for the third time by Principal Secretary K Vidyasagar on June 26,” Jeetwahan Oraon added.
Also, he said that the process for the upper primary teachers’ appointment will take some time since file work is awaited. “A meeting will then be held between the Chief Secretary and the HRD department officials before sending the recruitment file to the cabinet for approval,” the Primary Education Director pointed out.
Notably, on June 30 the Chief Minister had instructed Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraverty and Principal Secretary Sukhdev Singh to take a final decision on teachers’ recruitment and other important pending issues along with concerned department ministers and secretaries within two or three days through a round table conference.
