The wildlife management in Jharkhand is in jeopardy. There is no sincere effort for maintenance of sanctuaries, habitat for wildlife, grassland management and other corollary aspects of the wildlife here.
Stating this, a senior member of State wildlife board DS Srivastava said on Tuesday that the board had seven meetings. In its seventh meeting on March 10 presided over Chief Minister Raghubar Das, a resolution was taken which stated that the board would sit every three months from now on wards.
Srivastava said, “Eight months after in November, no meeting has been conducted so far. By the resolution of the seventh board meeting of wildlife board, there would have been two meetings.”
It shows indifference and apathy on the part of the higher ups in wildlife management, he said.
Asked if PCCF-cum-chief wildlife warden Pradeep Kumar is doing his bit, Srivastava said, “Had he put his best foot forward things would not have been like this where after March there is no board’s meeting.” “It appears Kumar is not exerting himself,” he added.
Srivastava said he had shot off a missive to PCCF Kumar recently. But he hastened to add “I have not much hope if my missive would spurt the officialdom to act fast.”
When asked if he has brought this matter to the notice of the Chief Minister, Srivastava said, “I am waiting for the response of my letter addressed to PCCF Kumar and if it goes in vain then there will be a knocking at the door of the Chief Minister’s office too’.
Srivastava said a proper and transparent probe into the condition and status of sanctuaries located in Jharkhand namely Parasnath sanctuary in Giridh, Koderma sanctuary, Udhuwa sanctuary in Sahebganj, Dalma sanctuary, Palkot sanctuary in Gumla, lavalong sanctuary in Chatra and others will rob the officials of their peace of mind as state’s sanctuaries are a colossal piece of utter neglect and apathy.
There is no concern for management and the wild life is left to fend for itself he added quite angrily.
