State Election Commission of Jharkhand is said to have requested the Election Commission of India to defer the lohardaga Assembly by-poll till the time panchayat polls end on December 12.

According to the recent announcement by the Election Commission of India, the by-poll for lohardaga Assembly constituency is scheduled to take place on November 21 while Panchayat polls will be held there between November 22 and December 12.

The sources in the State Election Commission revealed that the office of the Chief Election Commissioner has made the request soon after the Election Commission came out with by-poll date on October 21.

The Assembly seat fell vacant after AJSU legislator Kamal Kishore Bhagat was sentenced seven years of imprisonment in a case related to extortion and attempt to murder and thus got disqualified.
