Embracing the good face of social media, the State police is ready to monitor common man’s complaints and their redressal at district level through popular micro messaging social media Twitter. Apart from the conventional ways of keeping an eye on policing in the State, the police headquarter has found it a convenient way to monitor the status of complaints coming to the social media.
After a crime review meeting chaired by DGP DK Pandey and attended by all SPs, DIGs IGs and other senior officials, ADG (operations) cum State Police Spokesperson RK Mallick said on Thursday that 23 out of 24 districts of the State are ready with their Twitter handles to welcome complaints from the common man. The ADG said that the SPs of all districts will monitor the Twitter handles and update the action taken on the complaints.
“All 23 districts except latehar have their Twitter handles and now the responsibility of police has increased as the tweets would be in the eyes of public. Senior officials of the police headquarters will also keep an eye on the status of the complaints and action taken on them by police,” said Mallick.
Talking about cyber crime in the State, the ADG said that a presentation on the current scenario of cyber crime in the State was given by IG (HR), where it was shown that the number of such crimes has come down. “However,” he said, “it was marked that the location of cyber criminals is now being traced more from bordering areas of the State. Now, calls are being traced from lakhisarai and Jamui in Bihar and some other districts of West Bengal. This was decided that we need to work with the police of other states in order to tame the cyber criminals,” said the ADG.
He further said that 10 criminals of each district have been marked and their activity status is being evaluated to keep a tab on crime in the districts. Also, the SPs have been asked to do random checking and other deterrent activities regularly.
Talking about security arrangements in Shravani Mela, the ADG said that over 1000 officials are posted in Deoghar during the period. He said that the 77 policemen have been suspended for ignoring their duties and the police are on their toes to ensure safety of the visitors there.
Mallick said that the State police have received the Supreme Court instructions on mob lynching cases and it would send orders to the SPs in a day or two. However, he said that police were toiling hard to make the lynching cases reach a conclusion and ensure punishment to the culprits.
